Scholarship Committee Guidelines
The Scholarship Committee shall review requests from:
- Only current SOCES students are eligible for SOCES PTSA scholarships. Parents, chaperones, judges, etc. do NOT qualify for scholarships.
- Scholarship requests must be made at least two weeks before the funds are requested to be paid. No scholarship requests will be considered after the last two weeks before school ends.
- Scholarship requests will ONLY be considered if the student’s family has submitted a meal application during the application period for the current school year.
**Requests for the purchase of items (such as uniforms, books, or supplies) are only eligible for scholarships so long as the items remain the property of SOCES and can be used by other students in the future.
The following requests are eligible for scholarships up to 100% of the amount requested:
- Senior Dues
- AP Tests
- SAT Tests
- Books for AP classes so long as the books are returned to the school at the end of the school year**
The following requests are eligible for scholarships up to 50% of the amount requested:
- School-related/sponsored trips during the school year, such as Yosemite, CIMI, Tall Ships, etc., up to a maximum of $250. Special or extenuating circumstances will be evaluated on an individual, case-by-case basis.
- School-related/sponsored summer programs, such as Cheer Camp, leadership retreats, etc. Special or extenuating circumstances will be evaluated on an individual, case-by-case basis.
- Trips for school-related competitions, such as Band, Speech & Debate, Cheer, etc. Special or extenuating circumstances will be evaluated on an individual, case-by-case basis.
- SAT prep course but only if the course is provided at SOCES
- Books for colleges classes up to a maximum of $500 per student per semester and so long as the books are returned to the school at the end of the school year*
The following requests are NOT eligible for scholarships:
- College Application Fees
- Non-school sponsored trips, such as the trip to Washington, D.C.
- Items that will not remain the property of SOCES and/or cannot be used by other students in the future, such as personal uniforms
Once a student has received a scholarship for a non-academic request, each successive request for a non-academic scholarship shall only be eligible for up to 50% of the current request or 50% of the previous scholarship, whichever is lower.
